Microsoft drop ‘10 Free Microsoft 365 Business Premium’ and ‘Free Office 365 E1’ offers for non-profits

In May 2025 Microsoft announced their plans to drop the ‘10 Free Microsoft 365 Business Premium’ and ‘Free Office 365 E1’ offers for non-profits.  This core change will effect the way many small non-profits manage their IT moving forward. Managed I.T. Support providers should now be reviewing their client estates, evaluating client requirements and providing options moving forward. Tetrabyte have contacted all customers for whom this will imminently effect and have started this process.

 

Key Points:

  • The ‘10 Free Microsoft 365 Business Premium Donation’ offer is ending 01/07/2025
  • The ‘Free Office 365 E1’ Offer is ending 01/07/2025
  • These Subscriptions will not renew after 01/07/2025
  • Microsoft will continue to provide up to 300 ‘Microsoft 365 Business Basic’ Licenses as a free donation.
  • Licenses in excess of this will need to be purchased.
  • Microsoft will continue to provide discounts up to 75% on other licenses for non-profits
  • If subscriptions are left to expire, Microsoft will follow its standard 90 day data deletion process.

 

What Next:

For users that just need Exchange Online, Onedrive, Sharepoint with the Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint Web Apps, then migrating to the Microsoft 365 Business Basic is the ideal solution as long as your non-profit is under 300 users.

If you just need the installed desktop applications, you have two core options, Microsoft 365 Business Standard subscriptions at a heavily discounted rate, or Perpetual Licensing.
We currently recommend against the Perpetual option as Microsoft at this time seem to have no plans for Perpetual Outlook to work after 2029.

Lastly, for organisations that need advanced security, device management & automatic device setup and additional apps such as Loop, bookings, Planning, Forms and more. The Microsoft 365 Business Premium package is ideal and very cost effective.
